Grande Ourse

Chalet La Grande Ourse is a stunning catered chalet in Samoens, The property is located just 4 minutes walk away from the picturesque village centre, perfect for a saunter into town after dinner for a couple of drinks. The main ski access point, the Veclard gondola, is easily accessed by hopping on the minibus service laid on by the chalet operator in the mornings and afternoons. Alternatively, the resort bus service stops close by and you can also walk to the lift in 15 minutes.

Chalet La Grande Ourse sleeps up to 13 guests in 5 bedrooms. 4 of the bedrooms have their own en suite bathrooms, the remaining bedroom has it’s own allocated private bathroom too. The open plan living/dining room is a delight, offering comfy seating, roaring open fireplace and a large flat screen TV. The added luxuries come in the form of an outdoor hot tub and a brand new games room with slate bed pool table.

Your wake up call
To get you off to a great start, we can bring tea or coffee up to your room first thing.

Traditional French breakfast (6 days)
Tuck into fresh bread, croissants and coffee, tea or hot chocolate (with a cooked option available too) to set you up for a day on the slopes.

Afternoon tea (6 days)
After an energetic day on the mountain, break for afternoon tea with homemade cakes, a cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate.

Evening meal (6 nights)
Relax as you are served a four course evening meal, with starter, main course, dessert and a cheese course, accompanied by quality house wines.

Packed lunch
For a small additional cost, a packed lunch for the mountain can be provided. Ideal if you don’t want lunch to interrupt your skiing or riding.

In keeping with ski chalet tradition, one night of the week will be your opportunity to sample one of the local restaurants (while your hosts have an evening off). They can advise you on choosing a suitable restaurant and make the booking on your behalf if you wish.

Menus are adjusted according to the season making use of the best ingredients and noting how climate influences appetite.

Everybody should enjoy a good meal and your hosts are a dab hand at catering for special dietary requirements.

Breakfast -Daily filling hot option including:

  • Boiled eggs with dipping soldiers
  • Scrambled eggs on chunky granary bread
  • Porridge with honey and almonds
  • Poached eggs with crispy pancetta
  • Freshly baked baguettes and croissants with a choice of jams, honey, marmalade and chocolate spread

Afternoon tea – Tasty home-baked cakes, cookies or muffins with tea, coffee or hot chocolate. A different freshly baked option will be available every day and will include:

  • Peanut butter and white chocolate slices
  • Carrot cake with cinnamon frosting
  • Indulgent chocolate brownies

Dessert – chocolate and hazelnut praline tart with creme fraiche
Cheese board – selection of regional French and Savoyard cheeses with fruit and cheese biscuits

Menu 3
Starter – pumpkin soup with parmesan croutons
Main course: Fish pie with creamy mashed potato and a parmesan topping or
A vegetarian option of spinach, leek and goats cheese tartlet
Braised petit pois and steamed broccoli
Dessert – sticky toffee pudding with a hot toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream

Our Opinion

A beautiful chalet in a beautiful resort. If you put this chalet in Val d’Isere, it would cost 3 times the price. We are quite a fan!
