Aurora, sleeps 10-11, St. Anton

A virtually ski to the door chalet sleeping 10-11 guests in an elevated position close to the apres-ski bars

Piste-side locations are much sought after in St. Anton and only a handful of chalets can claim to be ski in/out. This is one of them. The property is located on the piste just above the Galzig-Bahn lift. The blue slope which the property is adjacent to leads down to the main Galzig gondola and Gampen chair. Depending on snow conditions there is a short access path up to the slopes or you can walk a little further along the road to join the slopes. The town centre is best accessed by walking 10 minutes down the piste or a little longer by road. On the way home, you can either take the resort bus (the stop is a couple of minutes walk from the chalet) which is free during the day and a small charge incurred in the evening or even take one of the resorts very reasonably priced taxis straight back to the chalet. The two main on-hill après-ski bars are practically next to the chalet, the Mooserwirt and the Krazy Kangaruh. They are both great fun and very lively indeed but fear not, they close at 8pm at the latest meaning that your night’s sleep will remain undisturbed.

The chalet itself sleeps 10-11 in 5 bedrooms, one of which can sleep an optional 11th guest. Only one of the rooms, the self contained studio, has an en suite bathroom. The rest of the bedrooms share bathrooms. The living and dining area is on the upper floor of the chalet which offers a comfy and welcoming space to relax after a good day on the slopes.

Since the owner and her family live in a self contained apartment on the middle floor, this chalet  is not suitable for noisy group.

Our opinion

Slopeside chalets in St. Anton are generally all on the other side of the ski area and not convenient for guests looking to make the most of the infamous apres-ski. Well not this chalet, just off a blue piste and a stones throw from the Mooserwirt and Krazy Kangaruh bars. The elevated location does mean accessing the town centre will involve a bus or a taxi.

This chalet best suits skiers looking to ski and apres-ski very hard but less enthusiastic about going into town after dinner.

With beds made up with fresh linen and towels provided in your room. Unpack your suitcase and start your holiday.

Hearty breakfast:
Guests don’t need to lift a finger in the kitchen, it’s all part of the luxury of a catered ski chalet holiday. It already starts in the morning with a hearty continental breakfast to fuel your day on the slopes. The smell of coffee in the morning will lure you to the breakfast table. You need do nothing other than find your way to the table to enjoy a breakfast of freshly baked baguettes straight from the famous local bakery, jams and butter, fresh eggs, spreads, cornflakes, cereals, muesli, yoghurts, fresh fruit, milk, fruit juices, hot chocolate, fresh coffee and pots of tea. Finished breakfast? It’s time to hit the slopes, because your chalet staff will do the dishes, make beds, clean the chalet’s public areas and do the shopping.

Homemade afternoon tea and après-ski snacks:
After your day on the slopes you will return to a chalet which is kept sparklingly clean throughout your stay. Towels are changed midweek. The chalet staff make life really easy for you. It’s a ski chalet tradition your chalet staff will have laid out a sweet and salty afternoon tea with freshly home-made après-ski snacks/canapés/nibbles for your return. Our chalet staff are there to light the fire and the chalet will be filled with the aroma of baking, and a freshly prepared mulled wine or ‘vin chaud’ or tasty hot chocolate will also be awaiting your return to warm you up inside out.

Freshly prepared home cooked dinner:
While you sit back and relax in the chalet (or enjoy a soak in the hot tub, see our chalets page), or maybe a drink or two in one of our local bars, the chalet staff will be creating a freshly home cooked three course dinner for you. The atmosphere is like that of a dinner party, but none of the guests have to take turns to cook. All our meals are prepared with fresh local produce and plenty of it, no tiny portions. To complement your meal we serve free and unlimited quantities of a selection of good quality red and white wines during the course of dinner.

Chalet staff day off:
Our chalet staff have one day off during your stay. Unlike most other chalet companies who leave you to look after yourselves on hosts day off, our chalet staff provide breakfast like each other day. And you do not have to worry about clearing away breakfast. After your day on the slopes you can make of course a cup of tea and coffee by yourself this chalet staff’s day off. And you are welcome to help yourself to the chalet drinks fridge. In the evening, most of our guests visit a local restaurant. Our chalet staff know the good one’s and their regional specialities and will be pleased to make a reservation for you.
