A Brand New Folie Douce Opens in Avoriaz

Here at Alpenglow, we help all sorts of different skiers and boarders find all sorts of different ski chalets and resorts. And we’ve noticed over the past couple of years that a new requirement has started to raise its head… “We really want to go to a resort with a Folie Douce.” Can one bar really provide such a draw that groups base their resort choice around it? Apparently so!

For the uninitiated, the original Folie Douce in Val d’Isere was the first apres-ski venue to really hold a candle to its Austrian competitors. La Folie Douce is a larger and louder than life apres-ski spot that showcases semi-live house music lubricated by lashings of rose wine and beer. Some of the outrageous shows have to be seen to be believed.

Over the past decade, the original has spawned several new Folie Douce bars in Meribel, Val Thorens, Alpe d’Huez and Megeve. The big news for next season is the addition of Avoriaz.

The Portes du Soleil ski area is one of our absolute favourites and both Morzine and Avoriaz both have a good apres-ski scene, but it’s always been missing that something special. We think a brand new Folie Douce will bridge that gap. Granted, getting back to Morzine will involve a gondola ride and bus trip back but that’s half the fun!

If you’re booking a group ski holiday and want to go to a resort with a Folie Douce, contact us and we’ll find the right ski chalet in the right resort for you. Cheers!

P.S. There are murmurings of a Folie Douce Hotel in central Chamonix appearing at some point next season or the season after, and we can’t wait to see what that is going to be like!
