Flaine

As the highest resort in the Grand Massif ski area, Flaine is a perennially popular destination for skiers and snowboarders looking for a large ski area but something different from the Three Valleys or Espace Killy. Flaine offers convenience and exceptional value for money.

Overview

Flaine is a purpose built resort in the Grand Massif ski area. The main village is mostly made up of rather stark concrete architecture but it maintains a certain retro charm. What Flaine gives you in convenience. The village is small, most of the accommodation surrounds the main “front de neige” almost like a horse-shoe. The main lift hub is a 3 or 4 minute walk or quick ski away from here. This front de neige is quite a feather in the resorts’ cap. It has a fantastic sledging area and some lovely cafe’s and bars.

The ski area is wide ranging and great fun. It caters mostly to beginners and intermediates however experts and powder-hounds will be in their element because Flaine has such massive areas of un-pisted terrain that is easily reached without having to trek and because the resort is relatively quieter compared to the other mega resorts like the 3 Valleys and Espace Killy, fresh tracks can be found days after a big snow fall. If that’s not enough, the Diamant Noir black piste is about as challenging as they come, often boasting ice moguls the size of small cars!
