Engelberg

The ski area here is split into 3 sections – Titlis, Brunni and Bannalp. Due to the elevation, you are pretty much guaranteed snow throughout the season making this resort a great choice. There is a fairly even split of blue and red slopes, whilst offering more challenging terrain for the more advanced skier. It’s what we would call an ‘all-rounder’ resort.

The Titlis area is the larger of the 3 areas with the highest peak reaching 3020m with challenging slopes, glacier skiing and some of the best off-piste we have seen. A number of the off-piste routes however, require a guide – you have been warned! If you’re after a bit of a challenge, why not try the 12km long run from peak to town… with a 2000m descent this one will keep you busy! The lower slopes are a lot quieter and offers a great place for beginners who are still finding their feet, or if you just want to practice technique.

Brunni ski area gives you 7km of sunshine slopes between the trees which is often a prime choice for families or head to the smaller area of Bannalp which has 2 family-friendly ski lifts and a total of 6 slopes.

Despite being a smaller, lesser known town than the famous names of Verbier and Zermatt, Engelberg has a lot going for it. Enjoy a beer up at 2450m in the Sternbar at Station Strand before tackling the 1000m descent into the town. At the base of the mountain you’ll find The Chalet – an apres ski bar at Titles Talstation. Enjoy a Kafi schnapps around the fire or have a dance in your ski boots to the live band, the choice is yours! On Friday and Saturday nights you can also enjoy sledding followed by fondue. 

Alternatively further into town you’ll find a number of lively venues that continue late into the night including the Eden Bar, Spindle Disco, Hoheneck Bar and Gletscherspalte. If you’re after something a little more relaxed, why not venture to Hotel Bellevue-Terminus where you’ll be welcomed with food, beer and music at the Yucatan restaurant. 

It’s not all about the beer though – Engelberg also has a number of family-friendly activities to enjoy including sledding, ice skating and snow-shoeing. Alternatively, take a trip to the highest suspension bridge in Europe at a whopping 10,000ft or take an overnight excursion to the Igloo Village where you can enjoy a cheese fondue and snowshoe tour before a cosy night in an Igloo!
