Ischgl is a lovely resort in the Tirol area of Austria. The village is picturesque yet compact, meaning everything you need is within a short walk away. The centre is traffic-free and the skiing is accessed by three gondolas all positioned at strategic points along the resort. Ischgl is very lively after the skiing has finished, and the après-ski here is world-class. In fact, we struggle to pick between Ischgl and St. Anton – which is high praise indeed!
The accommodation on offer in Ischgl is limited though, especially when you’re looking for catered chalets. The vast majority of the beds in the resort are in hotels, and they tend to be expensive.
That said, Ischgl is probably our favourite resort as it just doesn’t have a weak point. The skiing is amazing, the après-ski is as quiet or as raucous as you want and the lift system is the best we have seen in Europe. Ischgl a resort everyone should visit, even if it costs a little more than you might usually spend!
